We love Kona and the Big Island of Hawaii. Over the years we have discovered some really fun things to do, and we want to share them with you here. There are lots of things to do and see, and most of them are great for kids and adults. If you have a favorite activity that you would like to promote on this web site, e-mail us the web address and a brief description. Mahalo! Things to do in and around Kailua-Kona Places to Go - One of our favorite beaches very near to our condo (just about 2 miles south) is Magic Sands Beach. The kids love the surf, the sand, and the tidepools.
Activities
- On our last trip to Kona we took our 5- and 3-year old boys on a glass bottom boat tour. They loved looking under the ocean and observing the fish, coral, sea turtles, and other creatures. Highly recommend this one hour tour.
- For the fearless (and non-closter phobic) you may wish to try an underwater submarine tour. This looks like a lot of fun, although we have not done it ourselves. (Let us know what you think if you have taken the tour.)
Places to Eat
- For great pizza, excellent brew, and one of the best dining experiences in Kona, we usually make our first stop the Kona Brewing Company.
- Another favorite dining spot is the Bubba Gump Shrimp Co., on Alii Dr. Taking its theme from the movie Forrest Gump, you'll get an excellent meal, and excellent view, and some of the finest wait staff in the business.

Things to do at Waikoloa and beyond Places to Go - From our unit you can walk, or drive, to one of the nicest beaches on the Kohala coast, Anaeho'omalu Beach (A-Bay to us locals). Pull up a complimentary lounge chair, rent boats or umbrellas, maybe even take a scuba dive trip. The kids will especially love this sheltered bay as they can swim without fear of large surf. This beach gets five stars from us!
